+ СІХ!

Дорогі радіо слухачі!

Народне прислів'я каже, що святі по землі не ходять. Очевидно, твердження правельне, бо ж нема нікого досконалого, нікого, що б завжди робив тільки добро, бо ми всі помиляємося; усі стараємося іти дорогами справедливости, але почасто і сходимо з тих доріг. Не легко постійно зберігати свій внутрішний спокій, контролювати себе, не вибухати.

Чи можемо, поглянувши надовкола себе, знайти таких жінок і мужів, про яких моглиб ми сказати, що вони святі? Чи можемо інших коло себе вважати кращими від себе, бо ж нам здається, що ми завжди на правильній дорозі, а то інші провиняються. Коли б так ми, кожного дня, кожної години, кожної хвилини, могли сказати оцю молитву, що святі отці часто відмовляли: "Господи Ісуси Христе, Сину Божий помилуй мене грішного, або грішну", то ми б зрозуміли, що ми не кращі за інших, і що головно в нас повинна відбутися оця зміна, що поведе нас дорогою святости.

Кожний день у церковному році присвячений святим. Спочатку християни почитали тільки мучеників і ісповідників, тих що вмирали або терпіли за віру, бо вони були прикладом як жити і як умерати за Христа.

Ті, що жили бовгодним життям, не були окремо почитані в церкві. Про них вважалося, що вони виповнюючи свій обовязок, заслужили собі на царство Боже, але що ніякого окремого признання від людей тут на землі їм не потрібно. Вони зробили це, що повинні були зробити. Пізніше, коли минулися часи переслідування, і віра та любов поволи остигали, церква почала зачисляти до святих усіх тих, що відзначалися христи­янськими геройськими чеснотами. І так маємо багато більше святих як днів у церковному році. Між святими у першу міру відзначається, Пречиста Діва Марія, мати нашого Господа, про яку кажемо що вона чесніша від хирувимів і незрівняно славніша від серафимів, а дальше маємо пророків, апостолов, отців Церкви, мучеників, ісповідників, Христа ради юродивих, безсребреників і багатьох інших святих.

Щоб не забути нікого зі святих, щоб не поминути тих, яких людське око могло недоглянути, а людська пам’ять  забути, Христова церква установила окреме річне свято, якого сьогодні празнуємо. Це неділя всіх Святих, в якій згадуємо тих, що Господь нам їх прислав, щоб вони були світилами на дорозі, щоб ми не розгубилися. Вони виконали своє завдання, перейшовши свою дорогу не посоромивши Христового імени, а перед нами подібна дорога яку нам також потрібно перейти з відзначенням. І не важне, чи зробимо помилку на тій дорозі. Нема нікого досконалого і ми неє. Святі також не були досконалі. Але вони упавши могли піднестися і йти уперід уповаючи на Боже милосердя. Подібно і ми. По упадку піднесімся, перепросім і прямуймо до єдности з Господом, до святости

Ніхто не спасається сам і ніхто сам не буває засуджений. Бо якащо спасаємося, то ми на чолі тих, на яких мали вплив, які ідучи за нами дійши до місця де немає болізні ні печалі ні зітхання але життя безконечне, а якщо в наслідок свого життя доведеться нам бути засуджені, то ми стоїмо на чолі тих, на яких мали неґативний вплив, а які нам довір’яли і сліпо прямували за нами.

Не вистарчить бути охрещеними і миропомазаними, і приступати часто до Пресвятої Євхаристиї. Для нашого спасіння потрібно троха більше. Потрібно святости. Святими зможемо стати тільки тоді, коли будемо старатися робити добро, не тому що мусимо, бо Господь нам це наказує, ані тому що інші нам так сказали, але тому, що з любови до Христа ми любимо робити добро. Усі ми повинні взяти на себе свій хрест, тобто свої менчі чи більші терпіння і прямувати до святости, а по дорозі помагати іншим, щоб і інші могли якнайкраще наслідувати нашого Господа. Станьмо усім для усіх. Робім добрі діла завжди, бо добрі діла це найкраща молитва, і просім святого Духа, якого зіслання на апостолів і на нас ми прославляли минулої неділі, щоб Він дав нам силу зрозуміти наші завдання в житті. Просім Його, щоб зійшов освятити наш нарід, і щоб нам приніс свій мир, так дуже потрібний у сьогоднішні часи. Хай нам дасть зрозуміти, що в єдності є наша сила, та що єдности нема без любови і взаїмного прощення.

Дорогі в Христі! Так як перші Хрестияни могли бути святими і ми можемо. Спосіб, як ту святість осягнути, напевно буде різнитися від їхнього способу, бо ми живемо у інакших обставинах, і кожний і кожна з нас є інакшою особистістю. Не сміємо і не можемо 100 процентово наслідувати когось, бо нічого з того не вийде. Кожна особа своїм шляхом має прямувати до єдности з Богом, до синівства Божого. Для нас святі є тільки доказом що можна осягнути царство Боже. Придивляймося їм пильно, але стараймося жити своїм життям любови. Хай усі в нас побачать Христа. Поможім тим, що потребують нашої допомоги і тим сповнимо закон Христовий. Таким способом ми будемо на добрій дорозі, щоб себе освятити, на дорозі, яка поведе нас до єдности з Богом, і напевно сповнемо завдання, що нам їх учитель доручив.

Щоб могти осягнути святість у нашому житті, ми мусимо плекати свою віру, старатися розуміти її вимоги, і жити нею.

Віра є та, що провадить нас до Христа, яка остаточно дає нам участь у царстві Божім, дає нам можливість дійти до неба.

Де те небо є, і коли воно в дійсності приходить? Чи щойно після смерти, після того як ми багато натерпілися? Зовсім ні. Теєрпіння немає вартости, якщо Христос його не освячує. Смерть неє знищенням бо Христос своєю смертю на хресті смерть переборов. Той що з Господом постійно живе, той і по смерти з ним буде жити, бо він насправді не вмре, а переставиться до вічного божественного життя, а той, що без Господа живе, і при життю він мертвий, і смертю помре і не буде мати участи у небесному царстві.

Не шукаймо за небом десь там далеко у просторі чи в часі. Воно зачинається вже тут на землі з нашим зачаттям а ми стаємо його учасниками при хрещенні. Воно підтверджується миропомазанням, а доказується євхаристією. Різниця між Небом, в якому ми тепер повині перебувати, і Небом якого у вічності будемо втішатися є в тому, що ми тепер боремося за нього, а в майбутьності будемо його посідати в міру нашої досконалости. Небо, оте царство Боже є в наших серцях, у нашому внутрішньому спокою, у нашій любові.

Постараймося наслідувати Христа, який “витерпів хрест не звертаючи уваги на сором, і який возсів праворуч Божого престолу”, щоб ми удостоїлися стати учасниками Царства Божого.

Ті що в небі закликають нас, щоб не зважаючи на труднощі, ми мали перед собою тільки одне: Сповнювання Волі Божої, а Бог нам завжди даватиме вистаршально ласки і сили. Св. Апостол Павло у листі до Коринтян так висловлюється: “Те, чого око не бачило, і ухо не чуло, що на думку людині не прийшло, те приготовив Бог, тим, що його люблять.”

І на кінці з нагоди Дня Батька бажаємо усім батькам щастя, здоров’я і многих і літ.

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ!

The first Sunday after Pentecost is dedicated to the commemoration of all the Saints.  Sanctity is the work of the Holy Spirit; thus all Christian holiness is the fruit of Pentecost.  The Feast of All Saints completes the cycle of movable feasts.  Over four months ago, the Sunday of the Publican and the Pharisee, preceded the weeks of fasting for Great Lent, which led up to the central event of the whole Church Year - the Resurrection of Christ.  Since then we have followed the services of Bright Week and the Sundays after it to the Ascension, Pentecost, and now today.  The Feast of All Saints is the result of everything that has gone before it.  Today's feast celebrates the identity of the Church, of her sacred personality.  On this day the Eastern Church pays particular veneration to all those who are the fruit of the gifts of the Holy Spirit.  We celebrate this feast all over the world.  Our Holy Fathers instituted this feast and directed it to be kept after the feast of the Descent of the Holy Spirit, to set before us an example of how the coming of the Holy Spirit enabled many persons to attain sanctity.

The Servant of God, Metropolitan Andrew Sheptytsky said: "The veneration of the Saints not only does not oppose in any way the worship that is due God, but eminently contributes to it.  We honor Saints as servants of God, as our heavenly protectors who intercede for us before God and obtain from Him, for us, the forgiveness of our sins and Heavenly graces."  Holiness is not an achievement, it is a Grace. One of the many teachings of Christ implies: ‘God is closer to sinners than to saints.’  I was still a youngster in grade school; when a priest explained this to me with such clarity.  This is how he elaborated: ‘God in heaven holds each person by a string. When you sin, you cut the string. Once you show sincere repentance, God ties the string up again, making a knot and thereby bringing you a little bit closer to Him. Again and again your sins cut the string and with each further knot of grace, God keeps drawing you closer and closer to Him.’  As an adult, the image that was painted in my mind as a child has never left me - God drawing us closer, in spite of ourselves.  And there is no greater comforter then the Holy Spirit to remind us of the presence of the Almighty in our lives.

All Christians are called to holiness by virtue of the sacrament of Baptism.  Every person, regardless of status or condition of life, can become a Saint and is duty-bound to strive after holiness of life.  Metropolitan Andrew Sheptytsky wrote: “The source of our failures and of all the plagues that afflict our Church and national life, is failure to apply ourselves seriously to living our Christianity and the teachings of Christ, yet we must do so not only as a Church but as a people of faith in order to convey to others the aura of holiness.” The Second Vatican Council encourages us to venerate the saints: "It is supremely fitting, therefore, that we love those friends and co-heirs of Jesus Christ who are also our brothers and sisters and extraordinary benefactors; that we render due thanks to God for them and suppliantly invoke them and have recourse to their prayers, their power, and their help."  Our Lord, Jesus Christ addressed all people without exception when He said: “Therefore, be perfect as your Heavenly Father is perfect” (Matthew 5:48).  Saint Paul also reminds us of our duty to pursue holiness: “This is the will of God, your sanctification”.  Holiness is living according to the commands of God and the Church; it is the daily fulfillment of God’s wills, constant fidelity to the duties of one’s state, or more briefly, holiness is the Gospel translated into action.

Life according to the teachings of the Gospel, lived out in love for God and neighbor, is the way in which each person seeks and aspires to holiness of life.  The Saints in Heaven, then, are God’s beloved and intimate friends; our protectors, intercessors, and benefactors; our guides and role models on the path to virtue and sanctity.  “We extol you; Apostles, Martyrs, Prophets and Saints, and we honor your holy memory, as you pray for us to Christ our God” (Hymn of Praise).  The Saints learned how to bear a fruit of the Spirit, they learned to be in a unity with God and all people, and they learned to love everything in this world.  This very love does not allow them to forget about us, still living here.  In Heaven, everything is alive and moving by the Holy Spirit, but on earth - we too have the same Holy Spirit.  It lives in our Church; the Holy Spirit lives in the Sacraments; it lives in the Holy Scripture and all the souls of the faithful.  The Feast of All Saints, among whom the Mother of God occupies the first and the highest place, is indeed a triumph for our Church.  But at the same time it obliges us to ask ourselves in all honesty: How far have we come in our own relationship with God?  Are we living a life of virtue and holiness?  Are we walking in the footsteps of the Saints?

A story is told about four pastors who were debating which Bible translation was the greatest.  The first argued that the King James Version was best.  It shows that God’s word will endure from generation to generation; the poetry and Old English are simply beautiful to read.  The King James Version teaches us to revere the scriptures and study them diligently.  The second pastor argued that the New American Standard Bible was better because it provides us with the most accurate translation.  The closest word for word translation from the original Hebrew and Greek, therefore the New American Standard Bible must be the best.  The third pastor argued that the New International Version was the better translation.  He said that it was much easier to read than the other translations and while it did not have the word for word meaning; the New International Version captures the original meaning of the text and communicates it better in modern language.  Each then looked to the fourth pastor to see which version of the Bible he would support.  After a few moments he said, “It is my belief that the living Bible is the best translation.”  Each of the other pastors responded, the living Bible is not a translation it is only a paraphrase and is much too wordy to be trusted.  The fourth pastor smiled and said, “No, I don’t mean the book; I mean the living Bible I saw lived out in the life of my father every day.  He lived the scriptures in such a way that I remain convinced that the Bible is indeed the Word of God, and my father’s living Bible changed my life forever.”

The strength and the happiness of any man or woman consists in finding out the way in which God is going, and moving in that way too.  We are restless in our hearts until we are at peace with God, because what matters most is not our knowledge about God as some divine being, but rather our knowledge of God as our heavenly father.  And today, as we also celebrate Father's Day, I am reminded how blessed I am to have this knowledge of God the Father, because of a very special man I have known and loved all of my life.   Through every sacrifice, my own father has shown me the endless virtues that come from loving others.  And that example has brought me closer to God, each and every day.  As I was growing up, I remember my Dad telling me about many wonderful things.  He gave me a great deal of good advice that has lasted the test of time, and while my father does not tell me how to live, he lives and lets me learn from his example. 

Recently, I have started to reread a wonderful book, one that I have read several times before, but I still learn something new every time.  This book is a beautiful love story about a father and his love for his children.  It speaks of his desire to be with his children even when they do not always make time for him.  It expresses the genuine love this father has for all of his children, and the suffering that he sometimes goes through when his children go astray.  But this book is also filled with many wonderful passages and stories, that are overflowing with a wealth of knowledge and speak of goodness; exemplifying such exuberance in how we should all live our lives for one another.  This book identifies with a loving father who tries to teach his children by giving them guidelines and examples to follow.  Every page is beautifully illustrated with various levels of devotion and tender moments of love experienced first hand.  The name of the book, in case you may be interested in reading it, is "The Holy Bible", and the author is God, our Heavenly Father.

Love is not just action – it is sacrificial action. Love always pays a price and costs something.  When you love, benefits accrue to another person's account. Love gives and it does not grab.  So it is with God's love - it is sacrificial.  For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through Him. Love is the choice we must make every day, regardless of the sacrifice - and how many times have our own fathers shown us such genuine examples of love?  Today, while we celebrate Father's Day, let us also consider the many lessons of love and virtue that we have learned from our deal old dads.  Reflect on the countless hours and constant care they put into nurturing and shaping our lives for the better.  They received us in their hearts the very moment we were born into this world.  They united us with our Loving Father the instant we were baptized in His Grace.  And they carry a perpetual Light to overcome all darkness – so that our Lord's love may shine upon us and lead our way.  My the good Lord bless all fathers, grandfathers, and even great-grandfathers today, both living and deceased, in the light of His glory.  For blessed indeed is the man who hears many gentle voices call him father.
