Дорогі радіо слухачі!
Сьогодні 28 неділя по Зісланні
Святого Духа. Запросив якийсь чоловік багатьох знайомих на вечеру.
Усі вони мали нагоду прийти, побути разом, повисилитися, але ніхто зі
запрошених не бачив потреби потрудитися взяти участь у радості цього господаря.
Зайняті своїми справами, усі вони відмовилися. Кожний з них ніби то мав якусь
причину. Один сказав: “Поле купив і мушу піти на нього подевитися”; Другий:
“П’ять пар волів купив я і йду їх випробувати”; Третий: “Оженився і через це не
можу прийти”. І поле можна оглянути іншим разом, і воли не втічуть, і жінку
можна з собою привести на вечеру. І всі ці речі і всі ті особи були би благословені.
І вони самі одержали би стократно. Ясна річ, що запрошені не хотіли прибути, бо
їм видно господар не подобався, старалися вони його оминати і тому різьними
способами оправдувалися, і ніхто зних не скористав зі запрошення. І що стається.
Бачачи, що запрошині не виявилися гідними, господар каже тоді до свого слуги:
Піди на роздоріжжя і вулиці міста і привиди сюди убогих , калік і сліпих і
кривих.” І зробив так слуга і ще було місця. І тоді господар знова сказав:
„Вийди на шляхи і загороди і наполягай увійти, щоб наповнився мій дім.” І ще
додав: „Кажу вам, що ніхто з отих запрошених не покуштує моєї вечері.” (Лука
14,16-24)
Ми також з вами, дорогі в Хрисі, запрошені
на небесний бенкет. Згідно з книгою приповідок (9,5) усі ми маємо нагоду прийти
і їсти хліб і пити вино, що нам
приготовано.
Чи Божем запрошенням можна
знехтувати? Ні! Ніколи і з ніяких причин. Господь не тягне нас на силу, але
хоче, щоб ми з власної волі прийшли і стали учасниками Царства Божого. Але
вимога є щоб прийти. У противному інші прийдуть і засядуть до стола, а ми
відійдемо шукаючи за полем, або волами, і всім тим що відчужує нас від Господа.
У Івана Христос так каже: “Я хліб життя. Хто
приходить до Мене не голодуватиме, і хто в Мене вірує не матиме спраги ніколи.”
(Ів. 6,35)
Що неділі і свята приходимо на Св.
Літургію, яка є божественним бенкетом. Святе причастя це пожива на вічне життя.
“Хто їсть моє тіло і п’є мою кров”, каже Господь, “той живе життям вічним і я
воскрешу його в останній день.
Бог нас так полюбив, що і свого Сина
єдинородного віддав для нас. Велике питання стоїть перед нами - Що ми даємо для
Нього? Що даємо для потребуючих, у яких постійно повинні бачити Христа?

Бeручи до уваги тe, що притчі в
устах Христа були нe просто життєвою мудрістю чи якоюсь дотeпною бувальщиною, а
проголошенням правди про Божe Царство (пор. Мт. 13, 11), відчитуємо її
сьогодні, вeдeні тим лeйтмотивом, що його промовляє Лука устами одного з
співбeсідників Христа: «Щасливий той, хто їстимe хліб у Царстві Божім».
Приходячи до Господнього храму, ми, традиційні, в доброму розумінні цього
слова, християни, всe ж таки рідко коли усвідомлюємо справжню традиційність
нашої віри. Багато хто йдe зі звички, багато хто - з цікавості, інші - зі
«спортивного інтeрeсу», нeначe прагнучи довести щось всім і вся, ще інші -
вeдeні звичайнісіньким лицeмірством чи модою... Відносно мало є тих, хто
справді щиро скажe, що йдe в храм, аби помолитися Богу. Бeзсумнівно, цe вжe
добра відповідь, аджe ж самe в храмі посeрeд спільноти своїх братів і сeстeр
християнин має змогу, нeначe риба в воді, жити повним молитовним життям (пор.
Мт. 18, 20), тут він бачить потрeби, нeмочі і нeдуги інших, тут з їх допомогою
заносить до Бога прохання за власнe прогрішeння і дякує Йому за ласку спасіння
всe тим жe одним сeрцeм, алe численними устами.
Одначe цe щe нe всe. Молитися, і
навіть спільнотою, можна будь-дe, проте винятковість цeрковних стін полягає в
тому, що вони є особливим місцeм служіння і подяки християнської спільноти -
місцeм Літургії, Євхаристії, Причастя. Самe тут, ми звичайно святкуємо
торжeство спасeнних Христових Тіла і Крові, які є для нас єдиним (пор. Ів. 6,
53-54) пeрeданням Спаситeля і Його апостолів (пор. 1 Кор. 11, 23-26). А якою ж
є в момeнт принeсeння цієї Жeртви наша повeдінка? Сам Бог приготував для нас цю
дивну Таїнство-Вeчeрю. Під час її приготування Він справді стратився для нас
(пор. Фил. 2, 6-8). А що ж ми? Ми, які віруємо в Бога і в тe, що ті Хліб і
Вино, принeсeні «за багатьох», а отжe, нeминучe і за нас з вами, після
освячeння є такими лишe за назвою, що вони - дійсний Спаситeль-Христос - коли б
побачили наші очі Його воплочeним тут на зeмлі знову, - ми нe відпустили б від
сeбe ні на хвилинку! Ми знаходимо сотні виправдань, котрі нeпоправно і
бeзнадійно заблудили дeсь між цілковито другорядними і насправді маловажними
для нас рeчами, і... задкуємо назад або нeпорушно стоїмо на своєму місці. «Хто
спраглий (пор. Ів. 7, 37б), приступи з вірою і любовію (пор. Літургія, виголос
пeрeд Причастям)», - кажe Христос, алe здебільшого ми ігноруємо цeй Його заклик
так, ніби їсти хліб Божого Царства зовсім нe є бажанням наших спраглих Бога
душ. Чого ж прийшли ми, що віруємо? Виявляється, для видовища, «тeатрувати», щe
раз бeзучасно і бeзпричасно поглядіти, замість тодішнього натовпу, який
розпинав Христа, на Його нeспасeнні і марні для конкрeтно кожного з нас
страждання і смeрть! «Бог створив нас бeз нас, алe спасти нас бeз нашої
співучасті Він нe можe», - сказав свого часу блажeнний Августин, єпископ
африканської Гіппони. Нe знаю, чи роздуми самe над цим євангeльським уривком і
таїнством Святого Причастя надихнула його на цю вeлику думку, алe повторюючи її
розумом у власній нeмочі пeрeд жeртовником Божого храму, так хотілося б почути
позад сeбe смирeннe багатоголосe «Пeрeд двeрима храму твого стою і від страшних
мислeй нe визволяюся. Алe Ти, Христe, прийми мeнe, спаливши мої гріховні
провини...» (з молитви пeрeд Причастям св. Івана Дамаскина).

В неділю, 19 Грудня матимимо празник
святого Миколая, патрона нашої церкви. З цієї нагоди одинока Свята Літургія
цього дня буде о 12 годині рано, а опісля запрошуємо усіх на обід. Це також
нагода, щоб перед закінчинням цього,
2010 року, зложити пожертву на нашу церкву, бо церква без нас усіх не може
рости і розвиватися. Сердечно дякуємо усім за Ваші пожертви.
Рівно ж повідомляємо, що день перед
тим, в суботу 18 Грудня буде програма Рідної Школи, на яку загостить гість з
неба, Св. Миколай. Просимо взяти участь у цій програмі і в такий спосіб
підтримати „Рідну Школу”.

Brothers and Sisters in Christ!
The Gospel reading for this 28th Sunday after Pentecost reveals a parable Jesus shares with us about a man who prepares a great banquet and issues many invitations to those who have been chosen to share in his feast. The first invitations had already gone out to the chosen guests and they had made their commitments to come. Then the servant of the Master was sent out to inform the guests that the meal was prepared and it was time to come to the Master's home for the feast, much like Christ was sent out into this world to prepare a place for us in our Heavenly Father’s Kingdom. But each of the guests, at the last minute, made excuses for why they could not attend. Similar to how only some people have accepted the invitation of Christ in their hearts, while others have still made excuses for not being able to do so. The man in this parable represents God and the banquet is meant to represent our relationship with God. The truth is that we all have a tendency to make excuses to our family, our friends, and even ourselves. But we forget that God is the One who is inviting us and so often we excuse ourselves from Him.
Those in the
parable, who were first invited and refused to come, represent the general rejection
of many of us to the teachings of the Gospel.
We are quick to make excuses and slow in our approach to Christ. But the good news is that the invitation is
here, if we are willing to accept Christ into our hearts. In today’s parable, no longer shrouded in
images and prophecies we have been given a clear picture of what God has
prepared for us. When we receive the
bounty of Christ through the Eucharist, we are given the perfection and
holiness we need to be loved by God and to love Him. At God’s great banquet we are also given
living water to drink, which restores and invigorates us through the Holy
Spirit, better directing our relationship to God. Course after course of spiritual food is set
before us at our Lord’s Supper. But so
often we take light of the fact that God’s great banquet is free, that it lasts
for eternity, and we are all invited to attend.
So when we allow other priorities to take hold of our lives, we need to
re-evaluate what is truly important. If
we know God and abide in Him, a certain set of priorities will guide our daily lives. And the Bible assures us that if we live by
this precedence - we will live at peace with God and with one another.
It is not
enough to admire the precepts of the Bible; we must also have a deep desire for
the person of the Bible - our Lord, Jesus Christ. We have been invited to work out our
salvation, knowing and trusting that it is God who is working through each of
us. Yet, we often search for excuses to
avoid our commitments, even when people need us the most. Moses tried to do that, saying: ‘Lord, I am
slow of speech and tongue. How can I
possibly lead Your people?’ To which God
replied, ‘Who gave man his mouth? I will
help you speak and teach you what you are to say’. And in essence, God was saying to Moses that
there is no excuse for avoiding what I am asking you to do. Yet, how often do we remain preoccupied by
our own wants and desires, that we simply excuse ourselves from doing what God
has asked us to do? And perhaps all of
our excuses have good reasons in the right context; but their importance does
not compare with the value of serving our Lord in the ways that scripture
teaches us. God is willing to live with
our excuses not to serve Him, but are we willing to forsake our own
relationship with Him? When our excuses,
our earthly concerns and possessions take priority over our relationship with
God, they eventually catch up with us, and when they do - we may very well lose
our seat in the
December is the
busiest time of the year. Everyone's
busy preparing for the holidays and continuing family traditions. I often
wonder if many people really stop and think what Christmas is all about. Are we teaching our children the true meaning
of Christmas or rather how many gifts need to be under the Christmas tree? I met a little girl a few years ago, during
one of my friend’s hospital stays. Her name was Beth and she was my friend
Rachel’s roommate for a couple weeks during her hospital stay. Beth was a seven
year old child that saw the importance of giving and never thought about giving
up. Some may think a child isn't old enough to carry enough wisdom to teach us
all a valuable lesson in living. But I've learned a heart grows from life's
many challenges and sometimes a child's challenges can be far greater than some
adults. Beth was a very happy girl
despite the medical problems she was facing. Her long blonde curls always
seemed to bounce with her smile. We got to know each other well and had become
good friends. We witnessed many children with all types of cancer, and
unfortunately, Beth was one of those children. She was doing two weeks of chemo
and radiation. I was amazed at her will and determination to never give up
despite how very sick her treatments made her. She was always concerned about
my friend, Rachel, and the other patients with cancer, whom she grew to know
over her many hospital stays. Rachel’s
IV treatments for her failing kidneys were done after a week and I was happy
that she could finally go home in time for Christmas. We were awaiting the
final discharge orders when Beth appeared from the other side of the curtain
that separated their beds. She said to
Rachel, ‘I want you to have this. I know you need a new kidney, so keep this
angel pin with you until you get better. She will watch over you. A friend of
mine once gave this angel to watch over me, but now it's time for this angel to
watch over you. When you get your new kidney, you can pass this angel on to
someone else that needs her too.’ Rachel thanked her and then we all exchanged
hugs. I knew, we may never see Beth again, but I also knew that we would never
forget the gift of kindness that she gave from her heart that day. During the coming New Year, we found out Beth
had passed away. It was heartbreaking to
know such a beautiful little girl was no longer bouncing smiles to everyone she
would meet, but I like to think that her sincere kindness will stay with us
forever. The truth is that Beth healed
so many of us with her ability to love.
My friend Rachel kept that angel pin for another year, until the
miraculous day that she received a new kidney.
Was it the angel watching over her?
We can only wonder, but my heart tells me, an angel upstairs was
watching over her. After her surgery, Rachel felt it was time to give that
angel pin to someone else who needed to be watched over. She gave it to an
elderly man trying to overcome the damage from heart problems and undergoing
extensive therapy. His family informed
us, that when he returns home he wants to give the angel pin to someone he
knows who is suffering from a brain tumor.
How many families and hearts this angel has touched or will continue to
touch and how much healing occurs, we may never know. I like to believe that Beth’s angel pin is
still being passed around, from person to person, providing some sort of
comfort to those in need. But all it took was one single gift of kindness, one
act of love, which has and will touch an endless number of hearts forever. So
this Christmas season, look around and see the gift that cannot be bought.
Create a tradition with your children or maybe someone you love. Make another person’s day and do the
unexpected, let a friend know you care, or greet a stranger with a warm smile.
Give the gift of goodwill that keeps on giving.
After all, isn't that what Christmas is all about?
