+ Христос Раждається!

Дорогі радіо слухачі!

Христос, що народився від Отця без матері, перед початком усього, коли ще не було ні часу ні простору, народжується також в часі і просторі 2000 років тому, від матері без отця у малому містечку Вефлеємі.

Святий Йоан Золотоустий († 407) в одній зі своїх різдвяних проповідей звеличує таїнство Христового Різдва такими словами: "Бачу незвичайне й дивне таїнство: Пастухи наповняють звуками мій слух, голосячи не пустинну пісню, але співаючи небесний гимн. Ангели співають, архангели оспівують, херувими взивають, сера­фими величають, всі торжествують, бачачи Бога на землі і чоловіка на небесах; Високого — вдолі, за Його планами, а низького — вгорі по Божій любові до людей. Сьогодні Вифлеєм став небом, замість звізд приняв співаючих ангелів, а місто сонця незбагненне вмістив Сонце правди. Не питай, як це сталося, бо де Бог хоче, там уступає порядок природи...

Що сьогодні зродила його Діва, це знаю, і що Бог зродив Його без часу, в те вірю, але спосіб зродження я навчився почитати мовчанкою... " (Твори, Т. 6, с. 692).

- коляда (По всьому світу) -

Кожного року літургічно пригадуємо Христовий прихід у світ, сповнення бажань багатьох сердець на основі давніх пророцтв. Бог створив людину на свій образ і подобу, але людина затьмарена жадобою слави відійшла від свого Творця, думаючи що своїми власними силами зможе досягнути багато більше, щоб не тільки бути дитиною Божою, але самим Богом. Упавши зі своєї власної волі, під намовою Божого противника, того що сам давніше упав, людина не була в силі сама піднестися. Тому Бог Отець у своїй незбагненій любові посилає свого єдинородного Сина до нас, який народжується від Пречистої Діви Марії, найдосконалішої поміж жінками, щоб усі народжені від жінки могли осягнути спасіння. Він став одним з нас, нашим братом, щоб ми стали його братами і сестрами, щоб ми знову були піднесені до гідности називатися синами і дочками Всевишнього.

Народжується Господь в малому містечку Вифлеємі, у печері між звірятами. Не було місця у заїзді,  добре, що хоч печеру знайшли. Довго Спасителя очікували, а коли він прийшов ніхто того не зауважив. Знали про нього тільки пастирі, бо їм ангели обявили, і знали мудреці, бо їм небо дало знати. Звізду бо нову побачили і зрозуміли, що вона допровадить їх до Месії. І приносять йому дари: кадило як Богові, бо новонароджене диття є сином Божим, миро, як помазаникові, і  золото як володареві, тому, що усе йому належиться. Знав про нього також Ірод, який довідався від царів. Свята родина тому мусить утікати до Єгепту, бо грозило знищення.

Вернувшися назад з Єгипту виростає Христос у Назареті, а потім маючи 30 років Він хрестится від Йоана у ріці Йордані.

Через три роки навчав, помагав, чуда творив. Хоча жодних шкіл Він не покінчив, але в Вього уся мудрість. Хоча нічого не мав, все посідає. Усі пішли проти нього, один з його учнів Юда з Іскаріоту Його зрадив, а інші Петро і Андрій і Матей і Тома і всі інші апостоли крім Йоана порозбігалися коли то Його зловили, і насміхалися з Нього і на хрест прибили між двома розбійниками, а за одежу його кинули жереба. І поховали його в чужій гробниці. І так скінчилося життя і здавалося, що вже по всьому, що Христос відійшов у небуття. Противники його раділи, аж до третого дня, коли він своєю власною силою воскрес із мертвих, і його царству вже ніколи не буде кінця.

Нехай новонароджене Диття, народиться і в серцях кожного і кожної з нас, щоб і ми з ним прославилися. Приймім його як діти, з радістю, бо він до нас приходить малою дитиною. Дитина немає ані власті ані сили, але власне брак отої власті показує нам Його як володаря, а Його безборонність є якраз джерелом безмірної сили. Диття у вифлиємській яскині не робить нас боязливими. Воно входить в наші серця виключно через любов. Господь прийшов до нас малою дитиною, і ми можемо його прийняти і віддатися йому тільки способом дитини. Відтворім у собі оту невиність дитини, щоб знова стати невинними, щоб очиститися і прийняти Христа, і віддати Йому себе, і своїх рідних під його охорону. (За Александром Шмеманом: Церковний рік ІІ)

Немов мудреці пренесім новонародженому свої дари. Золота ми не маємо, ані мира, ані запашного кадила, але маємо свою готовість піти до нього на службу. Позволити Господеві, щоб він послужився нами. Наші руки нехай стануть його руками, якими він буде робити добрі діла, наші ноги нехай стануть його ногами, вживаючи яких він принесе допомогу тим що далеко від нас і від Нього. Хай Він вселиться в наше серце і постійно там перебуває, і любов його нехай повсякчасно з нас випромінює. Поставмо його на перше місце, а потім наши ближніх. Слід нам пам'ятати, що все що зробимо нашим ближнім, ми це Христові робемо. Господь не потребує наших подарунків для себе, але Він радо їх прийми, щоб роздати потребуючим.

Бажаємо усім вам, дорогі радіо слухачі, щасливих Різдвяних Свят. Христос Раждається!

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ!

Merry Christmas!  The Christmas season is so much more then tinsel on the trees or stockings stuffed with presents; Christmas is more about Bethlehem, and the child born in the manger.  Christmas is about coming to the Church and being part of a wondrous celebration that has been remembered for over 2000 years.  It is about our salvation in the making, about a single star that steered the wise men, about a carpenter who took a wife that was filled with the Holy Spirit.  About a virgin birth, that would one day lead to a crucifixion - and all because the Lord was willing to humble Himself for you and for me.  This Christmas, I pray that each of you feels the joy of knowing that Christ is in your home, in your hearts, among the family and friends that you love, and in the simple things of life that mean so much to you.  Christmas is a time for miracles, and stories that capture our hearts.  But Christmas is also a time to remember the gift of salvation which the infant Jesus has brought to our lives, and to celebrate this precious gift with one another.  Christ is the reason for this blessed and glorious season - May the peace and love of the Christ child, the real gift of this Holy Season, be with you always and with all those you love.  God bless us, each and every one! 

Today, we have the pleasure of sharing with you the Christmas sermon of Father Robert Moreno, administrator of St. Basil Ukrainian Catholic Church in Lancaster. We wish Father Robert and his family much health and happiness as we celebrate the birth of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.  In Father Robert’s absence, his sermon will be read by Father Marijan. 

Beloved ones: Christ is Born!  Glorify Him!

“God is with us understand all you nations that God is with us”. This beautiful phrase is repeated many times during the Christmas Eve services.  That God is with us sounds very familiar to us, yet it did not sound familiar at all for our Lord’s contemporaries.  If anyone would be greeted with such salutation I guess their first reaction would be… what have we done to deserve this?  Or more specifically, it is impossible, we do not deserve this.  You see part of their observation of the Sabbath was the belief that if one Sabbath was to be kept completely perfect, with no transgressions then immediately the Messiah was to come, Israel would not only be politically free but would rule over all nations. 

The political and moral situation of Israel at the time of our Lord’s birth was a dark one.  The nation of Israel was oppressed by Rome, Jewish people were so infatuated with the Greek culture they were said to be Greeks in Jewish bodies. Religiously, the priests, scribes and Pharisees were not leading God’s people in a way of holiness of perfection. The Jewish people were divided: traditional Jewish people versus Hellenized Jews (those favoring the Greek culture). To show how bad things were, consider that a statue of the Greek god Zeus was ordered by the Greek ruler Antiochus Epiphanes to be placed right in the holiest of holies.  The action was forced upon them, however many Jewish people liked it!  That happened only 165 years before Christ. So Israel is not faithful to God, things are not going well politically, socially or morally.  Already in the midst of this darkness we find several beacons of light: St. Joachim and St. Ann and their daughter the Mother of God Mary most holy, St. Zechariah and St. Elizabeth, and their offspring St. John the Baptist, St. Joseph the foster father of Our Lord and others.  And it is at this moment that God is born to us. True God and true man!

- коляда (Нова радість стала – A new joy has come) -

As we all look at the traditional Icon of the Nativity we are all inspired with great peace.  Precisely because we can sense in many ways that “God is with us”!  A deeper look reveals a chaotic scene… a baby is in a dark cave, only the ass and ox seems to recognize him. He who is “God with us”…  He is laid in a manger- a dirty utensil used to place the food intended for the animals.   His mother the most Holy Mother of God who has a predominant place in the icon, right in the midst, was unassisted in giving birth to her first born, no midwife, nurse, doctor, family or relatives.  She is by herself; however we see the blue color in her vestments a reminder of God's holy presence in her life, in her yes to God.  As we look at her she is not looking at Our Lord just born, but is looking with concern at Saint Joseph who is being tempted with thoughts of suspicion and betrayal. The magi, who were not Jewish, are shown with tongues of fire on their heads, divinely inspired to come and adore the new born King following the light of a star. (Just think for a moment, who in their right mind would travel at night following a star…well only those that truly allow themselves to be inspired by God.) Thinking about this, I have known so many souls in the jail where I minister that in the midst of their darkest moments, chose to follow a glimmering light shown to them. In following it they found Christ who has restore sanity in their lives. They come back to the sacraments and find life, at that abundant life. There is a multitude of angels singing; the shepherds are visited by an angel, not precisely the most religious people. And as we ponder around this scene we are filled with Peace.   Peace to know that no matter what is going on in our lives, how many trials, crises, and problems we can have, Peace precisely because God is with us!  Christmas is a time to forgive, a time to try again to reunite with loved ones that perhaps rejected or hurt us.  With loved ones that perhaps we ourselves shortchanged if not plainly hurt.  It is an opportunity to live to the full extent the message that God is with us! He is making it possible, if we only break away with the fruitless ways only too well known to us. Ways like of being distant, cold, un-welcoming, critical, condemning, and resentful.  Ways we have perfected in ignoring and overlooking the needs of those around us. 

I finish with my favorite Christmas story, the story of little Johnny in the Christmas play.  He was 6 years old and the Christmas play was being planned.  The teachers did not want to give him a role… you see Johnny liked to play around and sometimes his clowning was not appreciated at all.  However this year Johnny was determined to participate of the Christmas story play.  He was so insisting, that the teacher finally agreed to allow Johnny to be behind door 2, he would not have to use any special costume for people would only hear his voice. 

Door number two by the way is the second of three doors that St. Joseph knock on asking for a place for the Virgin Mary to give birth baby Jesus…  The response behind door number one was: “go away I am asleep with my family already…”   the response from door number two, that is Johnny’s one was: “The inn is full go away it is too late” and the response of door number three was: “there is no place here, but feel free to use the cave behind the inn, where we keep the animals”. This last scene closed the second act, the next act being the last one is the scene of Jesus on the manger, with Mary and Joseph the magi, and shepherds. 

Well little Johnny practiced his line several times with the teacher and everything went well, until the night of the Christmas Play.

Act one represented the annunciation of the Archangel Gabriel to Mary, the visit of Mary to Elizabeth and the acceptance of Joseph of Mary after the dream.  Act two is the journey of Mary and Joseph to Bethlehem in the midst of a storm… Act three is the joyous birth of Christ in the manger scene. 

Little Johnny was not that familiar with this story and had not rehearsed but only his part.  The night came for the Christmas play and Johnny was so happy and excited. Act one was very beautiful and Johnny was very impressed with the annunciation of the angel and Joseph obedience to his own dream.

Finally act two was here, Johnny was behind door number two, lights went on, the curtains opened and so came the narration of Mary and Joseph going to Bethlehem, it is late at night, cold and very wintry like. Johnny can hear the sound effects of the wind, the storm, the steps of Joseph on the snow… he hears how Mary and Joseph are so cold, and now Mary tells Joseph to find a place because she is about to have this child… Joseph sees the first inn and knocking on the door receives the bad news: “go away I am already asleep with my family”.  The narrator tells how Joseph’s heart sunk, with such cold words… Johnny’s eyes are filling up with tears; it is a most moving scene. Joseph sees a second inn (Johnny’s)… And so Joseph knocks on Johnny’s door saying: “I am Joseph from Nazareth I am with my wife Mary who is about to have a baby please can we come in?”  Johnny jumps up, opens the door and at the top of his voice says: “Joseph, Mary I have been waiting for you all night long, come in!” And the Christmas play that year was different … Imagine!  So open the doors of your heart and welcome Christ who comes to us in every one we meet... Christ is Born!
